Doodling It Step by Step
Saw it? Loved it? Bought it? Now don't know what to do with it?
As requested by Pepper, here is a special step by step to show you some of the things you can do with doodle templates.
Doodle templates are a lot of fun to play with, and you can add some real pizzazz to your layouts, cards and OTP projects with a little creativity.
The layout below has no photos, no stamping and no patterned papers, yet it is still quite striking.
I love doodling, so that's why I created this page (well, also as a way to show you some doodling ideas ).
To ask questions about specific doodles or techniques in this layout, please click HERE to go to the other thread. Post your questions and I will answer them there.
For step by step instructions for creating your own doodles, keep reading.

Doodle templates from The Crafters Workshop
~ Mini Flowers TCW915
~ Botanicals TCW80
~ Floral Vines TCW82
~ Swirls & Flowers TCW77
~ Swirly Lines TCW80 (for the journalling) (not pictured)
~ Arrows TCW90 (not pictured)
Doodle templates from Chatterbox Doodle Genies
~ #72931 - Botanical
Uniball Signo Gel Pen - Angelic Black
White and Black card stock
Other tools - Scissors and adhesive
Step 1
Choose a shape to experiment with - for this step by step I have used an arrow from the TCW Arrows template and a flower from the Doodle Genies Botanical template.
Place your template onto the white card and simply trace around the shape with the black gel pen.
* Tip - trace off several of the same shape so that you can experiment with different ideas to see how different patterns change the look of the same shape
Step 2 and Step 3
Step 2: Use templates to trace other shapes inside the first image, or simply draw some patterns freehand - circles, hearts, flowers and other simple shapes are easy to start with. In the images below, I have used a template to trace circles in one arrow, and drawn freehand flowers in the other.
Step 3: Build up the doodling by drawing lines and shapes to fill in the gaps, then colour in with the gel pen, alternating black, then white (uncoloured) then black etc to create the pattern.
This image shows how I have taken the simple flower from the Doodle Genie and made it much more interesting to look at.
Below are all the images I used in the layout (plus a couple I didn't end up using), cut out and adhered to black cardstock, ready to be cut out and put on my page.
So, now you know how easy it is, lets see what YOU can come up with.
Most of all, HAVE FUN!!!

This is awesome Deanne! I have 1 Chatterbox doodle Genie & I have tried it a few times but blah! lol. It never seemed to come to me & I never really thought of doing it like you've done it adding depth in some areas ... I just traced the template basically lol. Instead of adding my own doodles inside the doodles lol
Definitely gonna try this! I have these signo pens too & always thought wow other people must use them differently somehow ... but HOW!? lol ... now I know another way by seeing this step by step

WOW! So glad you all liked this step by step.
Playing with the templates is really fun. They can be scary when you trace off a shape and have this big white space staring at you. Just start drawing shapes and experimenting.
It will come to you. Good luck - I can't wait to see what you all do. _________________

I'm definitely going to add some doodling to my list of things to do on Friday - I'm having a day off work and it's going to be a strict "ME" day! (apart from taking the kids to school & watching my youngest DD at the Assembly, it's her year's turn to put on a "show" for us!). As for anything else, I don't care if the house is a tip or if DH wants help, I'm not doing anything I don't want to do (so there!). _________________
